Has God done great things in your life?
Can you recall His wonderful deeds?
Do you ever forget what He has done in the past?
Do you know what He will do in the future?
Throughout the Bible, we repeatedly see God’s wonderful works being brought to remembrance. “Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples!” (Psalm 105:1)
In the Old Testament, the psalmists and prophets would frequently recall the acts of God for His people: how He promised Abraham, called Moses, delivered Israel, and established His people. In the New Testament, the Apostles would build upon these testimonies by proclaiming the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Not only is this an excellent way to evangelize people who don’t know God/Jesus, it is also a great way to encourage and remind those of us who know Him well.
Like most people, I can get discouraged at times or so focused on a problem that I get overwhelmed or just plain down about things. One of the ways to combat such thoughts is to recall God’s wonderful deeds. Thinking on the amazing things He has done helps in several ways: (1) it reminds me how BIG God really is (2) it reminds me how He helps those who call upon His name (3) it demonstrates how faithful and trustworthy He is, and (4) it encourages my heart to know that I am a child of such a wonderful Father… (the list could go on and on!)
Additionally, recalling the mighty works of God isn’t limited to the pages of history, we can also recall His deeds in the lives of people we know (people we have seen blessed, changed, delivered, healed, etc.) and in our own lives! Think back on all the things God has done for you – times He has delivered you, provided for you, helped you, guided you, and especially how He saved you!
But we’re not done yet! Scripture also tells us of the wonderful things He will do in the future! In the end times prophecies, we see the conquering King Jesus return to the Earth, gather His people to Himself, and live with them forever in New Jerusalem. We see all of the joy and blessings that await us in Christ!
So I encourage you to think on these things – and think on them often! Proclaim them to yourself and to your neighbor! Let the wonderful deeds of God dwell richly in your heart and mind.
Praise Him for all He HAS DONE, all He IS DOING, and all He WILL DO!
“Sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done great things!” (Psalm 98:1)
May God richly bless you in His Son,
