What’s your favorite Bible verse?
Mine is Proverbs 3:5-6,
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.”
Why is this my favorite passage?
Back in 3rd grade, my Sunday School teacher would give us a piece of candy if we could recite any verse of scripture from memory. So, while riding in the car to church on Sunday mornings, I would quickly flip to Proverbs and try to find a short, easy verse to memorize! (I was going for efficiency! Because I wanted some candy!)
After I recited the verse (and received my candy), I typically would forget about it. But for some reason, this passage got stuck deep in my brain. Over the course of my life, it would come to me again and again. In a way, it became a theme for me to live by; a foundational truth to build everything upon:
- Trust God… with every part of you… with the deepest parts of your heart,
- Not relying on yourself, but relying on God,
- In everything you do… look to Him… trust in Him… rely on Him,
- And He will straighten your path.
I love the encouragement and the promise of this passage. It has become a great way to help me recenter my thinking.
Now, let me ask you, what is your favorite Bible verse?
And why is it your favorite?
Think on that verse for a moment; soak in its truth.
I pray that the recalling of your favorite passage brings you encouragement in God’s truths and hope in His promises,
